I get it, I also considered it so many times. Having a H-cup can be hard, especially in a new country where you have to figure out a lot of things that work out with you.
So here are the things I thought about before resorting to a breast reduction:
- Is it a you thing or a new country thing? Yes, you read correctly. Being an expat is fun and games until you try to find a new hairdresser, where to buy a shampoo and then buying clothes is the next hard thing. And obviously, you want to come out of it victorious. I only considered it when I found difficult to shop in Barcelona, so it was a new country thing.
- When was the last time you got fitted for a bra? If it was before you had your first mobile phone, it’s time for an update. You’d be surprised how many concerns the right size bra can solve.
And don’t get me started with the price difference between a surgery and a new bra. - Anything that you start, may end up with more work. I learned that one the hard way by having eye surgery. I desperately wanted to not have glasses anymore, it improved my quality of life but I also lost some. Now, I need to buy collyres all the time and it is an extra cost and effort each month. In this situation, are you ready for scars healing and shopping for a new wardrobe and bra?
- For any big change, have good support system. It is important and your doctor shall also ask you this question. If you are not in that place yet, it is ok. Take a big breath and build that first, you got this!
- You may wait a tiny little bit longer. Breast surgery can change a lot of things and not only their size. For me, I decided to wait in the event I would have kids; no surgery before the balloons have inflated and deflated.
- Have you checked your back? Bras can be instrument of torture and the weight on your shoulders (literally) can be a burden. Sometimes, it may not be the origin of all. Visit a back or posture professional, they can help you relief and understand where your back and neck pains come from. Mine were coming from unbalanced hips, it was solved with insoles and physical therapy for a few years.
- What are your fuller bust stopping you from doing? If it because you are tired of fighting clothes shopping and not finding clothes that fits and that you like; your feelings are valid and I get you. For myself, it became one of the motives to create Fitia: “if it doesn’t exist, I should make my own because I don’t want to change my appearance to fit in“. There is no better relief when clothes are fitting you.
Either way, make sure that you are doing this journey for yourself and as a way to take care of your body.
